EOKA “FREEDOM FIGHTERS”

Cyprus was a British Colony. In 1st of April 1955, people of Cyprus started a revolution for the independence of the island and eventually a union with Greece . Eoka was a Greek Cypriot nationalist paramilitary organization that fought a campaign for the end of British rule in Cyprus. In this project are some of the people that left behind their family and life to join the organization at really young age and become guerilla fighters in the mountains. Portrait on the left is my late grandfather Antonis-Nonis Engrafou, who at the age of 17 became the youngest division leader and a wanted man. He fought on the mountains till 1959 which eventually was the year that Cyprus gain its independence.
